TreeAction is pleased to be supporting and working with Giwa, a school tree planting initiative in Kenya helping cover vital transport costs to deliver trees to the schools.
Giwa Climate Response has been set up and recently completed a project on 9th August, a tree planting exercise at Mt Kenya forest station, which includes mango and avacado. Giwa have so far planted trees in 9 Schools and plan to plant in a further 16 Schools this year within a 100 mile radius. For each project, responsibility for care, including mulching and weeding, is allocated to 50 students in each School, which has average of 350 students. Their volunteers will also be pruning and checking and follow-up on all these activities until they reach maturity stage.
