Tree Action is excited to announce our latest school project – and we need your help to make it happen. We’re raising £5,000 to plant an orchard of 25 fruit trees and 5 woodland trees at Seaside Primary School in Lancing, West Sussex during the next planting season. With just two weeks to go, we’re already two-thirds of the way to our goal, and every donation now will help us cross the finish line.

This orchard is the first stage of a two-part plan that will see over 50 fruit trees planted on the school grounds by 2027. As always, the students will be at the heart of the project – planting, caring for, and eventually harvesting fruit from their own trees. The varieties we hope to plant include pear, plum and cherry, providing an abundance of hands-on learning opportunities for years to come.

Seaside Primary supports many vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils, with 15% on the Special Educational Needs register, making outdoor learning especially valuable. Our aim is to give every child the chance to connect with nature, understand where food comes from, and develop a sense of responsibility for the environment. Planting and caring for trees boosts wellbeing, builds confidence, and enriches the school’s curriculum, including their thriving forest school initiative.

Headteacher Lee Murley told us: “It’s really important that all children know that fruit comes from trees and that they can pick and eat their own fruit. Having an orchard will also support our forest school initiative.”

This will be our ninth school project in Sussex, continuing our mission as a volunteer-led, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to engaging young people and their families in climate action and sustainability.

We’re almost there but we need your support!
