Why I’m Speaking for the Trees
I love tall trees that make you feel how small you are. I love all trees, and they all need people to care for them because they give us oxygen to breathe, and without them we wouldn’t be alive.
I like being outdoors, and taking care of nature is a big part of my life. My favourite thing to do is climb up trees, without hurting them. I love playing hide and seek and hiding in trees, blending into their leaves and branches.
That’s why I want to speak for the trees.
Trees can speak to us, but we don’t understand their language. So we need to speak for the trees, so that other people can understand how to care for them too.
There is so much happening underground
We think the trunk is the beginning of the tree, but it’s the roots, and it goes all the way up to the leaves and branches. There’s as much below the ground of a tree that we can’t see as there is above the ground.
Tree roots are connected with animals and other plants and trees. They can communicate with each other very slowly. It’s amazing what’s going on underground. It’s quietly happening all the time.
I think trees can speak to animals too. I think their roots are all connected to the animals and other plants and trees, and that they can speak to each other slowly underground.
Trees can’t run away when there is danger. If there is a wildfire, the trees have to stay where they are because they can’t escape. But I think they let the animals know so they can run.
That makes me think about how much we need to care for them.
If we keep cutting trees down and they get burned in forest fires, we’re losing something we really need. People need trees to survive. They make oxygen so we can breathe.
We need to care for trees and help them grow, like they care for us because we need them to survive.
Why I’m doing a Tree Pose challenge
I got the idea for my fundraising action when I was watching something about people raising money for endangered animals.
I wanted to do something for trees because trees are important.
I chose a standing-on-one-leg challenge because I like balancing, climbing and bouldering, and it’s also like the way that trees stand. I’m quite determined, and I like holding a pose and sticking to it.
Also, it is Tree Pose, and I’m raising funds for the trees.
I’ve practised lots and can balance on one leg for nine and a half minutes.
My top tip to help your balance is to slightly bend your knee on your standing leg and look at a single spot that doesn’t move in front of you. It helps you stay balanced.
Please help me speak for the trees
Trees can’t tell us in words when they need our help. They can’t move away when they are threatened, and they can’t stand up for themselves when they’re being cut down.
But we can stand up for them.
I’m doing my Tree Pose challenge to raise funds for trees and to help people understand why they matter.
If I could speak to the trees, I would say…
“In the future, hopefully things will get better.”
I hope there will be more trees, more forests and more people who understand how important trees are. I hope we learn to care for trees like they care for us.
Trees give us so much, and I think we should care for them too.
Please support my fundraising challenge if you can, and help me speak for the trees.
Because trees care for us. Now it’s our turn to care for them. Support Heidi’s Campaign! Click on the link below:
